This is going to be an exciting weekend for the FC Delco “Freedom”! The U-13 girls soccer team are capping off a wildly successful season with a once in a lifetime opportunity. The winners of the Philadelphia Area Girls’ Soccer League championship were invited to participate in a match between the United States Women’s National Soccer Team and the Chinese national team, which will be held at PPL Park on Sunday, May 27th.
The girls from the Freedom will meet the Women’s National team and be paired up to walk out on the field with them during the introductions. During the game, the Freedom players will act as “ball girls” and assist the officials to keep the action on the field moving along.
We are really excited to hear that a team from our community was chosen for this honor, and to top it all off – we’ve got an inside exclusive! Alexis Williamson, the daughter of Oliver’s Energy Service Specialist, Matt, plays for the Freedom and will be with the team throughout the experience. She’s at the far right in the second row in the picture, and tells us that she’s really looking forward to meeting her hero, Hope Solo, and the rest of the national team as they play this important match heading into the Olympics. Her mom, Amy, is thrilled that the girls get a chance to be part of this game: “I am so proud of FC Delco Freedom & my daughter Alexis for being given the opportunity to meet & be part of the US Women’s National game on Sunday. Treasure the moment & live the memories!”
We wish Alexis and all the girls from the Freedom all the best for this experience, and we can’t wait to follow up next week and hear how much fun they had!
