Post-Game Report from the US vs. China game (starring the FC DelCo Freedom)

I’m happy to report that the girls of the FC DelCo Freedom U13 soccer team had a wonderful time at their big game on Sunday! The girls participated in the opening ceremonies and carried the flags of the United States and China onto the field, in front of a sold out crowd of more than 18,000 fans. Although the ladies of the US Women’s National Team had many obligations to fulfill, a few of them were able to spend some time with their special guests and sign autographs.

Members of the FC DelCo Freedom soccer team carry the Chinese flag onto the field before Sunday’s match.

As the match got underway, the girls served as ball girls and helped the officials keep the action moving. Our own Alexis Williamson was thrilled to be assigned a position near the goal defended by Hope Solo, and as you can see by the picture, she had a great view of all the action!

Local girls on the sidelines for the game

The girls had a great vantage point to watch the US team’s exciting 4-1 win over the Chinese!

There was plenty of action for the girls to see – after a slightly shaky start, and an early Chinese goal, the US team answered with two goals in each half to win the match 4-1, and bolster their season record to 11-1-1 for the year. Many of the players in this game have been chosen for the team that the US will field in the London Olympics this summer.

Thanks to Alexis, Matt, and Amy Williamson for sharing this special experience with us. Who knows, in a few years we could be writing again to say that one of these girls on the sideline will be heading to the Olympics too!
