What kind of maintenance and cleaning do my AC/Heating systems require?
Equipment manufacturers recommend annual maintenance to keep systems running at peak efficiency and maximum capacity.
Does my AC/Heating system need a filter?
That depends on what type of system you have. Boilers with radiators do not have filters. Hot air furnaces and heat pumps do!
Where is it located?
The filters are often located in the ductwork near the indoor unit. They can also be inside the unit requiring the removal of a panel to access them.
How often does it need to be changed?
There are many types of filters and some require a monthly change during heating and cooling months. There are others that only need to be changed once a year. A dirty or clogged filter can create major issues, so it is important to check all filters on the correct schedule and replace as needed. If you are not sure what type of filter you have, call us for assistance.
What AC/Heating services can I do?
Changing filters and cleaning around the indoor and outdoor unit can be accomplished safely by most people.
What do I need a professional to do?
That depends on the tools and skills you have and your comfort level working with gas and electric. For Safety reasons we do not recommend doing system maintenance or replacing parts if you have not been properly trained.
How do I know if my AC/Heating is working properly?
If it is maintaining the temperature you set the thermostat for, that is usually a sign that things are working ok. You can do a visual inspection to see if everything looks in order. If you hear or smell anything that seems unusual, we recommend turning it off and scheduling a service call. The best way is to have a professionally trained technician do an annual comprehensive maintenance and thorough cleaning of the system. They can certify that it is operating per the manufacturer’s specifications.
How can I save on energy cost?
There are many ways to save on your heating and cooling costs. Regular maintenance, insulation, programmable setback thermostats, higher efficiency equipment, and setting the temperature lower in the winter and higher in the summer are just a few. Give us a call and we will be happy to do an energy cost analysis.
How long do AC/Heating systems last?
Life expectancy on heating and cooling systems vary. On average, they last between 10 and 15 years.
When is the best time to replace?
With prices increasing each and every year it may make sense for you act sooner rather than later. Maximize your savings by taking action when manufacturer, utility and other rebates are being offered.
