8 Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Plumbing Company

At Oliver, we know it can be a little intimidating when it’s time to choose a plumbing company, so we asked our plumbing experts what they’d recommend doing before deciding. Here are the questions they would ask:

1. How long has the company been in business?

It’s helpful to note how long a plumbing company has been in business – the longer they’ve been around, the more experience they usually have. A well-established company will also show you stability and can give you peace of mind.

2. Is the company licensed and insured?

One of the most important things to find out when choosing a plumbing company is if the company is fully licensed and fully insured. This means they have completed all of the necessary training and paperwork in order to be considered legitimate and won’t hold you liable if anything goes wrong. If a company is licensed and insured, they should have no problem providing proof.

3. When are plumbers available?

When it comes to a plumbing emergency, you won’t want to invest in a company whose plumbers are only available at certain hours – you want a company with experts available. This way, you can trust that no matter what happens, it will be taken care of quickly.

4. How are their online reviews?

These days, people love posting reviews about the products they’ve paid for, and it’s no different for services like plumbing. Dig into the plumbing company you’re considering and check out what people have said about them in their reviews. This will give you some great insight as to whether they can be trusted or not.

5. Are employees background-checked?

When you have a family, it can be a little scary bringing a stranger into your home. Find out if the employees at your potential plumbing company have been through a background check.

6. Have you gotten recommendations?

If you have friends, family, or neighbors who have had plumbing work done, ask them who they used and if they’d recommend them. Sometimes this is the easiest way to find a reputable plumbing company.

7. How is the customer service?

Test out your plumbing company by calling their customer service line a few times and talking to the people on the other end. Were you treated with respect? Were they friendly? A company’s customer service department is a good indication of what kind of employees you’ll be dealing with.

8. Does the company respect your home?

Ask about the company’s “clean work area” policy – will the plumber use shoe covers and drop cloths to protect your floors? Will they clean up their work area when they are finished? Plumbing can be messy work, but when the job is finished, you should be confident that the company you choose will leave your home as clean as they found it.
