Then adjust the thermostat temperature:

  • For heating mode, raise the temperature above the current room temperature.
  • For cooling mode, lower the temperature below the current room temperature.

A properly functioning thermostat should show continuity (or very low resistance) when it calls for heating or cooling. When you move the temperature back outside the calling range, continuity should disappear. If the thermostat never shows continuity or remains closed all the time, it may be faulty.
