Do You Need Boiler Service?
A boiler that’s no longer providing heat is in obvious need of repair, but boiler systems often give you warning signs before reaching the point of failure. Schedule boiler maintenance with Oliver if your heating bill suddenly spikes compared to years past. Never ignore unusual odors or loud or strange noises. Call us if you notice a leak no matter how seemingly minor it is. You should also schedule an inspection if you notice uneven heating, and, if your boiler fails to provide you hot water, inconsistent hot water temperatures or you’re running out of hot water sooner than you should.
The Benefits of Boiler Maintenance
Oliver recommends that you schedule boiler maintenance at least once a year and preferably in autumn prior to the heating season. Seasonal tune-ups actually pay for themselves because they ensure that the unit runs efficiently and thus more affordably, and they extend the life of the equipment and thus lower your total cost of ownership. Regular maintenance also lowers your repair costs over the life of the system. It keeps your warranty valid. Maintenance also ensures safe operation, which helps to avoid carbon monoxide leaks and catastrophic failures, including boiler explosions.
Types of Boilers We Install
There are a wide range of boiler technologies used throughout the Delaware Valley, and we specialize in all of them. That includes steam boilers, hot water boilers, condensing hot water boilers, natural gas boilers, oil boilers, and more.
Steam Boilers
A steam boiler heats water to the boiling point so that it evaporates into steam. That fluid is then distributed via piping throughout the home, and heat is emanated traditionally via a radiator. The main advantage of a steam boiler is that it does not require a circulating pump to create flow.
Hot Water Boilers
Also called hydronic boilers, hot water boilers heat water but not to the boiling point. A circulating pump then moves that heated water through piping to a radiator where the heat emanates. Hydronic boilers are more common in homes nowadays as they are generally safer and more efficient.
Condensing Hot Water Boilers
Condensing boilers are a particular type of hot water boiler that burns fuel, such as natural gas, heating oil, or propane. Hot water boilers that burn fuel have to exhaust waste gases, and condensing units are able to condense water vapor in those waste gases in order to capture heat energy that would otherwise be lost.
Natural Gas Boilers
The most prevalent modern boiler in our service area and throughout North America is a condensing boiler that runs on natural gas. Natural gas is clean and relatively cheap, but since it isn’t easily stored on a residential property, a home must have access to a natural gas line.
Oil Boilers
Oil-fired boilers burn heating oil. Heating oil is easily stored on a residential property, which makes it a good alternative for homes that lack access to natural gas. However, heating oil does tend to cost a bit more than natural gas.
Boiler Installation and Replacement
In addition to boiler maintenance, Oliver provides a full range of boiler installation and replacement services. If you need to replace your boiler, we can help you choose the best system for your home and usage and install it with precision. Our team can also convert you to a boiler from a different heating technology, and in either case, if you like, we can discuss with you the option of using your boiler for hot water as well.
